My Grappling Video was founded by Gerardo Andrade, a sports enthusiast who knows the importance of having videos to improve upon the sport, or just to enjoy later.  Also, as a father, Gerardo knows how annoying it is to watch your kid’s event through a 4” screen instead of being able to be in the moment and cheering. Gerardo has a long experience in different forms of martial arts, like Judo, Aikido, Karate, and Kajukembo and he is a purple belt in BJJ. He has competed and/or coached in over 20 BJJ tournaments. 

Gerardo struggled to properly coach and film his kids matches having usually the video losing the struggle and giving more attention to the kids. Those videos were not very helpful, especially because the only thing that you could hear was Gerardo continuously shouting VERY loudly. 

Watching a video of the match of a former instructor (link here) that was setting up a omoplata, and finish the match with a submission out of a crucifix, Gerardo had mixed feelings. He was very happy for his instructor while being completely infuriated, because the transition and the submission were not in the video because it happened behind the mat’s table. On top of that, at that time Gerardo didn’t know how to set up the crucifix, so he was clueless of what happened.  

Gerardo also experienced issues when he started competing out of town with no one trustworthy to help him to film his matches. But he was really moved to find a solution when the Monday after a tournament his instructor said to all the students that fought, “We will watch the videos and improve on what we see.” What if they didn’t have a video? How could they improve what they did wrong? Did they really set up the triangle properly or were they just lucky?
That was when it all started.
